I bought a couple of other books on educational theories before finding this one. This one is excellent. It goes into an appropriate amount of detail on each theory and makes connections between different theories/theorists. In contrast, Learning Theories Simplified (Bob Bates) was too shallow on each theory/theorist. Another good choice to consider is Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Education: A Biographical Introduction (Gutek), but it's closer to 500 pages. If you're only interested in theories related to early children, [i]How Children Learn[/i] (Linda Pound) is also good.
